SLK CEMENT HAS INCREASED THE RAILWAY FLEET BY A THIRD
The leading cement company in the Urals has procured more than 230 gondola cars in 2021 as a part of reducing product delivery costs and upgrading its own railroad fleet. The expansion of the fleet provides for stability of shipments and guarantees that products are delivered on-time.
In 2021, the company reduced the unit cost of rail transportation compared to the same period last year, and reduced the cost of delivery per ton of cement, despite an increase in rates for the supply of gondola cars. An important role in this process was the increase in the percentage of the company's own rail fleet.
"The persistent shortage in the market for the provision of operator gondola cars in the medium term has allowed operators to set yet another record for rate increases. With this background, the purchase of our own gondola cars is an investment with a short payback period, while guaranteeing the schedule of cement delivery to our customers even during the peak season", said Logistics Director of SLK Cement Eugene GRISHCHENKO.
SLK Cement currently owns 701 units of rolling stock, of which 445 are gondola cars. This year the company made several procurements for renewal of the railroad fleet; the last batch - 61 standard gondola cars - arrived at the enterprises in October. Earlier, innovative cars with longer service life and higher load capacity were purchased.
"SLK Cement has doubled its own fleet of gondola cars, and already in 2022 the vast majority of rail shipments of cement will be made by its own resources. Controlled technical condition and equipment of transport units will significantly improve the quality of cement delivery", stressed Evgeny GRISHCHENKO.
